I had the most fun painting this piece. I started with the skull and brain coral and just winged it from there. I named it Calico Reef after the notorious pirate Calico Jack who was famous for the first skull and crossbones flag and for being hung in Jamaica and put on display to warn other pirates. -

Deep Mako

One of my personal favorite paintings. This painting was inspired by an 850 lb mako my buddy caught off the coast of the Outer Banks. The mako shark was caught on squid, and that is why I painted all the squid in this piece. The colors of the shark as well as the vibrant squid create an almost three dimensional feel to this piece that can only be appreciated while looking at the original painting. -
