I love coming down to Marathon, especially for fun events like the Seafood Festival. Marathon is a lovely place in the Florida Keys with wonderful people.
I recently heard about the Marathon Premier Sailfish Tournament non-profit organization. As I learned about their cause, I was intrigued. They started a much-needed Sailfish tournament in Marathon with the expressed goal to raise money for causes and charities that are important to them.
For 2022, their inaugural year, they decided to donate the event’s proceeds to Mission Fishin’. This non-profit organization takes kids and their families on marine adventures like snorkeling, fishing, and eco-tours. The organization’s beneficiaries include foster children, children with special needs or disabilities, and their siblings and parents. Getting these families out on the water to connect with nature and spend quality time with each other away from their usual environments and daily routines is a beautiful gift.
When presented with an opportunity to contribute to their cause, I jumped at the chance! We donated various art pieces that we custom-made for the tournament.
The largest item that we donated was a custom 27” x 60” sailfish piece on wood boards with the tournament name and year, 1st place overall category, and the coordinates for Marathon, Florida.
Next, we donated a medium-sized 22” x 48” piece featuring the famous Sombrero Lighthouse located just offshore Marathon. This piece was also on wood planks and had the tournament information, 2nd place overall category, and coordinates.
We provided a 17”x36” Florida Keys style bar piece for third place on wood boards with the event information, 3rd Place overall, and Marathon, Florida coordinates.
Top Male and Top Female anglers received both a custom plaque on wood and a smaller piece of artwork each.
We also donated other pieces for fundraising through silent auctions. In all, we donated 13 pieces of artwork.
Unfortunately, we could not attend this year due to scheduling conflicts, but I look forward to next year’s banquet on April 22nd. The tournament was a success, and the Marathon Premier Tournament will be presenting Mission Fishin’ with a check very soon. We are thrilled to have been involved with such a great cause this year, and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
